A very useful technique which can be included easily in a time-shared system. Acollection of diagnostic tasks are placed permanently in the task queue with only a low priority assigned to them. Whenever the queue of user-ready tasks is empty, the system selects and runs one of these test programs sending the results to a special monitor console.
