On a switched network, a data link which is disconnected after the two stations complete their transmissions, A new data link is created for each subsequent transmission by standard dialing procedures (manual or automatic). The new data link may be established with any other station in the network. Information flow is in one direction at a time (halfduplex) on the switched network.
