A program that controls all phases of the job set-up: (a) directs program compiling and debugging, (b) allocates memory, (c) assigns input/output activity schedules, (d) interleaves multiple programs for simultaneous processing, (e) directs all equipment functions and the flow of all data, (f) provides for error detection and correction, and (g) communicates with the operators.
