| 释义 | tunnel diode 隧道二极管；［透纳二极体］ A PN diode to which a large amount of impurity material has been added. Its operation is based on the tunnel effect of quantum mechanics. As the voltage across this diode increases, the current first increases, then decreases, and finally increases again. The region where the current falls as the voltage rises is called the negative-resistance region. Charges move through the tunnel diode at the speed of light, as contrasted with the relatively slow motion of electrical charge carriers in transistors.
