In computer security, a device connected to the communications port of a host computer that has the function of authorizing user access to the port. The PPD may operate between host and modem or between the modem and telephone set. The PPDs may have up to four typical features: (a) password tables; (b) call back to originator; (c) camouflage; (d) attack signalling and logging.
